Personal Bio– Hello, my name is Tyler Jefferson. I am a senior Administration of Justice student at Salve Regina University. My hobbies include playing tennis, hiking, fishing, and generally anything outdoors. When I am not at school I work as an Emergency Medical Technician for the department in my hometown in Massachusetts. I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Homeland Security with a concentration in Cyber Security. My dream job is to be a state police officer in a computer crimes task force and to get my paramedic license.
Class Information– In this class I will be sharing some experiences and information I have gained while working as a first responder. We will be discussing the 911 system, fire safety, medical equipment, basic first aid, and more. Feel free to jump into the class and join in on the discussion!

Week 1 (11/20) – Fire Safety + Stress
For this class we will be going over the importance of Fire Safety and some of the things I have learned working alongside firefighters. I will also go over some of the ways I handle stress in a high stress job. Some of the things being covered will be:
- Home Safety
- What to do in an Emergency
- The job of a firefighter
- Handling Stress
Week 2 (11/27) – 911 System
For this class we will be discussing the 911 system. Topics being covered include:
- The history of the 911 system
- The First Responder “Triangle” and Dispatch
- My role in 911 emergencies
- The future of the 911 system.
Week 3 (12/4) – Medical Equipment
During this class I will be showing and explaining some of the cool medical equipment my coworkers and I use while working.
- Medical Equipment for an EMT
- Medical Equipment for a Paramedic
- Ambulances, Life Flight Helicopters, and more!
Week 4 (12/11) – Basic First Aid
In the fourth week of this class I will be teaching some very basic first aid that I believe everyone should know. Hopefully you will never have to use it, but it is still good to know! Topics include:
- Various Certifications
- Treating Physical Trauma
- Treating Sickness
Week 5 (12/18) – “A Day in the Life” and Group Choice
To wrap up my class I will be incorporating everything we have learned so far and show you how it applies to an average day to day experience as an EMT and other medical personnel. I will also take this opportunity to teach additional topics of interest that you may have!
