First book featured will be Lois Lowry’s “The Giver:” a story of a brilliant boy named Jonas who
lives in a society being controlled by the rules and traditions of “The Elders.” Through his
wisdom and mannerisms, Jonas is selected as “The Receiver of Memory,” a post that
distinguishes him from others and gives him authority. How will he wield it?
You do not need to have read the first chapter by the first meeting, it will be an introductory
class.
